Breanna’s Story

Breanna was not living the life of a typical twenty-nine-year-old woman. Sadly, in 2011 doctors misdiagnosed her with Multiple Sclerosis, when in reality she had been sick with Lyme Disease for eight years. She went into cardiac arrest, which required an emergency tracheotomy. Breanna could not speak or move but kept doing weekly treatments that helped her tremendously. As a tracheotomy patient, she had many special care needs. Breanna’s weekly treatments helped ease her pain and improved her ability to swallow. Unfortunately, these treatments were expensive and her mom, Christine, suddenly lost her job. Like most moms, Christine was her child’s biggest advocate. She fought to have the best possible food and supplements to improve Breanna’s immune system. She thanked God Breanna’s life was spared and regularly reflected on how grateful she was for everyone’s support and prayers over the years.

However, after losing her job and her car breaking down, she desperately needed help. The family experienced great financial hardships and were unable to pay room and board for Breanna’s nursing facility. After receiving notice of her pending discharge due to non-payment, the family was in crisis. Project 4031 provided support by paying Breanna’s room and board and the notice to vacate was lifted. Her mom shared there was no way she could have provided adequate care for Breanna if she was forced to move home and was overjoyed to hear the good news. She explained after losing a job and falling behind, it can feel nearly impossible to get caught up again.
