November: National Hospice and Palliative Care Month

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. This year’s theme is “It’s About How You Live.”

“Every year, nearly 1.4 million people living with a life-limiting illness receive care from hospices in this country,” said Edo Banach, president and CEO of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. “These highly trained professionals ensure that patients and families find dignity, respect, and love during life’s most difficult journey.”

Living with a terminal illness impacts every part of your life, but hospice and palliative care can help.

At Project 4031, we are passionate about supporting hospice care and will continually promote their work because our mission sees first-hand how it can make such a massive difference to those they support. Facing a terminal diagnosis and caring for a loved one can become overwhelming in their last phase of life. When everyday life and stresses are added, daily life can seem impossible to manage. Our mission will always stand true and come alongside those living with a terminal illness and supporting the excellent hospice professionals that make a difference each day in the lives they touch. Our annual IMPACT dinner and auction, and this year now, a virtual event, has been hosted during this month for the past nine years to help bring awareness to life-changing work involved in hospice and palliative care. This year it will be held on November 13th all are welcome to attend.

The Mayo Clinic describes a complete description of what hospice and palliative care can provide:

“Hospice care is for people who are nearing the end of life. The services are provided by a team of health care professionals who maximize comfort for a terminally ill person by reducing pain and addressing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. To help families, hospice care also provides counseling, respite care, and practical support. “

This year, especially as the terminally ill and other vulnerable populations face the threat of the Coronavirus pandemic, Project 4031 is proud to have continued working alongside our hospice partners striving to serve their patients as they met the challenges risk the pandemic brings. I urge everyone to support your local hospice and organizations with us next month and get involved with organizations like Project 4031 to support the individuals facing end-of-life challenges.

Thank you to our hospice partners and the passionate care they provide to each of their patients and the life-changing work you do.

From Mrs. Payma;

“Today was Noah’s burial, and his mom got to share his photos and the joy they shared during their trip to Great Wolf Lodge. They said that coming home from the eight-month-long hospitalization and beginning home hospice service was when they got to start living and creating memories. I hope you know that you made that joy possible. Thanks for all you do. It’s truly a gift to work with you all.”
-Mrs. Payma, Hospice Social Worker
