Jerry’s Story

Micah

Jerry was an Army veteran on hospice service battling cancer. He expressed to his hospice social worker he wished he could travel to Virginia to see his daughter and grandchildren before his health declined further. Jerry lived on a limited fixed income and took action to cut his expenses as much as possible, but was still unable to afford a trip given his tight budget. His social worker described him as an honest man with a good soul and it was a very humbling experience for him to ask for help to see his family.

Project 4031 made dreams come true for Jerry by assisting with airfare for him and his son to travel to Virginia. They enjoyed four days of quality time together and made lifelong memories as a family. When Jerry returned from his trip, he was so grateful for the experience he sent a sweet thank you card that brought us to tears and served as a reminder of the lasting impact that our Fulfilling Dreams program is making for people of all ages.

“Your kind gift made me so happy to see my daughter and grandchildren. It renewed my strength and helped me to rise and soar above my own troubles and pain to see the joys I have in my life. I couldn’t stop smiling the entire weekend. Grandpa was such a big hit with the grandkids that the morning after I left, they asked, ‘Where’s Grandpa?’. Thank you so much again.”
