Summer is the time of year we all look forward to – a time to relax, slow down, spend time with friends and family, travel, make memories, and enjoy life. Summer can be a busy time of year as well, trying to schedule and coordinate all of the fun activities that you can in a limited time. Project 4031 has been busy this summer working to fulfill dreams and create happy memories that patients and their families can look forward to during a difficult time.

If you only had six months left to live… what would your dream be? Many people we work with have simple dreams and seek small comforts at the end of life. The All-American pastime that is always a family favorite for people of all ages is attending a baseball game and cheering on their favorite team. Not surprisingly, the most popular dream requested this summer has been to attend a baseball game to cheer on the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington. March 28th marked the beginning of the end of an era for the Texas Rangers as they kicked off their final farewell season at Globe Life Park. In an effort to get one last glimpse of the beautiful ballpark, many fans are flocking to home games before the stadium officially closes its doors at the end of this season.

Three Project 4031 patients and their families attended a Texas Rangers game this season and a fourth family will attend one soon. All of the patients had a great love for baseball and wanted to spend time together with their families. They felt extra special when they received a personal visit from the Rangers mascot, Captain, who stopped by to drop off goody bags. Attending these games allowed patients and their families to have something to look forward to, get away from their daily routines, and just enjoy the day making memories. The sights, sounds, and smells at the ballpark also allowed patients and families to recall fond memories they shared at baseball games before the battle with their illness began.

We would like to give a big thanks to our special donors and the wonderful folks at the Texas Rangers Baseball Club that made these dreams a reality for some loyal Texas Rangers fans!

Breidi and her family got to enter the field pre-game and then cheered on the Rangers from a luxury suite. The experience was extra special because Breidi’s son hopes to be a MLB player one day.

Judy is a lifelong lover of baseball and former pitcher herself. She is a huge Rangers fan and never misses watching a game on TV. She was beyond thrilled to attend a game with her family and cheer on her favorite team.
