They Will Soar on Wings Like Eagles

Our team often is asked, “Where does the name Project 4031 come from?” The answer we quickly share is that our organization’s name comes from the Bible verse Isaiah 40:31. In these brief interactions, we often don’t have time to elaborate on what this verse truly represents.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”       -Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah 40:31 draws on a beautiful promise of divine strength. The tired, weary, and weak lean into God, and their strength is so deeply renewed that they are able to SOAR on wings like eagles. The are no longer limited by the adversities they face. This verse speaks to releasing that weariness and persevering even when exhausted, and it promises the gift of supernatural, some might even say impossible, strength for those who hope in the Lord.

Project 4031 patients are all facing the same reality: their earthly bodies are failing them. Their bodies are losing strength and mobility and are no longer able to support the person they once were. Their families are devastatingly faced with watching their loved ones fade away, and they are helpless to change that experience. Even in this harsh reality, the end of life does not have to be hopeless. The supernatural strength that Isaiah 40:31 promises is the very reason our organization is able to serve. We recognize that we make little impact alone. It takes a loving community and God’s support to bring hope and joy to the hearts of the patients we serve and to their families who face the never-ending uncertainties and struggles that come with caring for their loved ones at the end of life.

The hospice and medical professionals we work alongside are the voices of the patients we serve. These are the women and men directly at the patient’s bedside to whom the families look and ask the impossible questions: “We can’t pay our utility bill and the service will disconnect at the end of the week. Mom needs this equipment to breathe, what do we do?” These women and men are the ones who show up every day and find realistic solutions to help their patients and their families as they enter into and share the stories of the families we serve.

As a circle cannot be formed without a beginning and an end, our donors and local supporters complete the impact and make direct service possible. Because we want to celebrate this circle of community, we are hosting a brand-new event, “Soar 2023.” Our desire is to recognize the work of many hands that come together to serve individuals at the end of life. This event is more than just a fundraiser, it is a community celebration of the efforts of the end-of-life community.

Together, and with the help of the Lord, we can help individuals of all ages at the end-of-life SOAR.
